A two-storey building collapsed in the commercial area near Liaquatabad No6. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in the incident. Excavation work was going on in the plot adjacent to the building due to which the building first tilted and then collapsed.
The police, fire brigade, rescue 1122 teams and other agencies reached the spot. There was a scrap shop in the building and several employees were present in the shop. They rushed out of the shop when they felt the building tilting. Locals present on the spot said that there was a four-storey building Bhore Khan Centre adjacent to the building which was bought by a person named Aamir Mughal. He first demolished the building without taking permission from the concerned institutions and started the excavation on the plot. Excavation was going on at the plot for the last two days despite shopkeepers warning him to stop the excavation.
Faraz, owner of the scrap shop, said that the workers were digging on the plot and went out to have lunch. Meanwhile, the building started tilting and the shop staff immediately went out and the building fell to the ground. He said that there was no loss of life in the accident, but the financial loss was huge and his business was completely destroyed.
Faraz said that his 40-year-old business was completely destroyed. He has demanded of the government to take appropriate action of the incident.
Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani has taken notice of the collapse of building in Liaquatabad and directed DG Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and deputy commissioner central to submit report immediately.
He said that any kind of lapse will not be tolerated in view of possible monsoon rains.
