FMU repeats diploma admission test

The vice chancellor of Faisalabad Medical University (FMU) has cancelled the selection of five top candidates for the Diploma in Medical Radiological Diagnosis (DMRD) session 2023-24, following allegations of irregularities in the entrance test.

The decision came despite a committee's recommendation for a high-level inquiry.

Sources revealed that a complaint had been filed by a relative of a disqualified candidate, accusing the radiology department of providing undue concessions to certain candidates.

The complainant alleged that the questions had been leaked before the test.

In response, the FMU administration formed a four-member committee to investigate the allegations.

The committee's findings confirmed that the selected candidates included those associated with the radiology department and office-bearers of a doctors’ association.

Despite the committee's recommendation for a high-level inquiry, the VC opted to cancel the results and order a new entrance test.

The university controller invited the previously selected candidates to reapply, but they chose not to participate.

Out of 13 new applicants, nine passed the test and five were selected: Dr Shoaib Yasin, Mahim Fatima, Ghazal Mehtab, Sibghat Husnain and Urooj Afzal.

The new written exam was set by an external professor of radiology.

A successful candidate said the examination staff had upheld the principles of merit.

FMU Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Choudhary confirmed that a comprehensive report on the irregularities and the re-examination process had been submitted to the Punjab Health Department.
