LAHORE:

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar has directed the formulation of a comprehensive security plan for all districts, including Lahore, to ensure the peaceful conduct of religious processions and gatherings during Muharram.

In a meeting at the Central Police Office, he emphasised resolving all issues in advance through consultation with scholars from various schools of thought and peace committees.

Dr Anwar instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally oversee security arrangements.

He highlighted the importance of utilising modern equipment and technology, including CCTV cameras, walk-through gates and metal detectors for the security of sensitive processions and gatherings.

The IG stressed that there should be no compromise on the security of minority citizens and their religious places, directing supervisory officers to regularly inspect these locations.

He also emphasised the importance of timely registration of FIRs, merit-based investigations, and prompt case processing.

Dr Anwar assured that, with the support of the Punjab government, all development projects, including Safe Cities and Smart Police Stations, will be completed on schedule.

He called for the proper functioning of Q-matic machines, computer and IT systems in police stations, service centres, and traffic licensing centres.

Dr Anwar underscored the need for RPOs and DPOs to personally inspect police stations, Khidmat centers, and public service centres.

The meeting reviewed performance analysis mechanisms, crime control, development works, and public service delivery.

Key issues such as the Safe Cities projects, security of minorities, the 1787 Complaint Management System, and FIR registration were also discussed.

He directed regular meetings with local representatives, chambers of commerce, traders, industrialists, and all stakeholders.

The IG emphasised making crackdowns on organized crime more effective across all districts and providing policing services through modern technology.

The meeting was attended by CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Additional IGs, DIGs, and senior police officers, with all RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs participating via video link.
