Justin Timberlake’s recent arrest for driving while intoxicated was reportedly prompted by an anonymous tip from someone within the hotel where he was staying, according to new reports.

The singer was taken into custody on Tuesday, June 17, at 12:17am in the affluent area of Sag Harbor in the Hamptons, Long Island. He was staying at the American Hotel, a well-known summer hotspot for celebrities.

The 43-year-old, who has won 10 Grammy Awards, claimed he had only consumed "one martini," as stated in a complaint obtained by The New York Post. Timberlake addressed the incident during a concert last week, calling it a "tough week" after his arrest gained international attention.

However, new information suggests the arrest might not have been entirely random or routine. Reports indicate that the police stop was likely the result of an anonymous tip from someone close to Timberlake, warning authorities about his drinking.

"[They] said Justin was having a lot of drinks, and they told the cop to watch him if he is going to drive," a Southampton restaurateur, who wished to remain anonymous, told The New York Post.

The restaurateur did not provide details on how the alleged caller was connected to Timberlake.

The local businessman expressed his belief that Timberlake was "mistreated," adding, "[He was] definitely treated unfairly."

"Everyone drives through that stop sign when no one is there," the source said, mentioning that Timberlake, a "Hamptons regular," has visited his establishments "many times" over the years.
