Police officer’s relative mysteriously shot dead at Karachi’s Abbasi Shaheed Hospital
A police officer's relative was mysteriously shot dead at Karachi's Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Monday night, police said.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Afzal Iqbal, was visiting the hospital's child emergency ward when he was struck by a bullet. Afzal, a resident of Liaquatabad and a close relative of former SHO Inspector Adeel, was attending to his close aid when the incident occurred.
According to DSP Nazimabad Kamal Naseem, Afzal was sitting outside the emergency ward with three friends when he went inside to fetch water. Moments later, he collapsed, complaining of a sharp pain in his chest. His friends found him bleeding and rushed him to the emergency ward, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire from a passing wedding procession on the street outside the hospital. Despite a thorough search, police did not find any bullet casings at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have collected statements from witnesses and gathered evidence from the site. "We will register a murder case against unknown suspects," police stated.
The victim's body was handed over to his family after the necessary legal procedures. Witnesses noted that the area frequently experiences gunfire, raising concerns about public safety.
