Excise dept fails to achieve tax targets

DG asks officials to submit detailed reports today

Failing to achieve tax targets in the recently concluded fiscal year has worried the Excise, Taxation and Anti-narcotics Department.

In response, Director General Faisal Fareed has decided to inspect the Excise Department Rawalpindi office and review the individual performances of all excise inspectors and ETOs on Sunday, despite it being a holiday.

The Property Branch of the Rawalpindi Division has failed to meet the targets for property tax, luxury tax, and wealth tax, resulting in a tax shortfall of 40 per cent for the division. Although the Motor Branch initially met its targets, it ultimately fell short of the revised target of Rs160 million.

Even prime commercial areas failed to meet their tax targets this time. The director general has issued strict instructions to all inspectors and field staff to ensure that all tax targets are met by midnight on June 30.

On Sunday, all officers from the Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, and Chakwal districts have been ordered to report to the Rawalpindi office at 11am with detailed reports.

In the meantime, the Motor Branch department, under its supervision, conducted a check on token taxes for vehicles on Saturday. This resulted in the impounding of nineteen vehicles and the issuance of challans to twenty-three vehicles, leading to a total tax recovery of Rs0.8 million.

Additionally, the Property Branch has sealed six property units and collected taxes amounting to Rs1.5 million.
