PESHAWAR:

A protest was held in Peshawar against the ‘illegal detention’ of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in which Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) also participated. The protesters demanded that Imran Khan be freed by ending the ‘baseless and false cases’ against him.

PTI workers were accompanied during the protest staged in the Hashtnagri area of Peshawar by K-P Minister Meena Khan Afridi, Deputy General Secretary of the party Irfan Saleem, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Shandana Gulzar, Arbab Aamir Ayub, MPA Haji Fazal Elahi and other party leaders.

Addressing the protesters, speakers on the occasion said ‘false and baseless’ cases had been made against the PTI founding chairman which ought to be closed immediately, adding that, although bail for Imran Khan had been approved by courts in various cases, efforts were being made to implicate him in others. Every conspiracy against the PTI and its leaders had failed, they said, adding that attempts had first been made to keep the PTI out of the last general elections and then the party’s election symbol had been taken away but, despite all such efforts, people had voted for the party’s nominees.

They further said the PTI’s mandate had been stolen in Punjab and successes of the party’s candidates had also been taken away in Peshawar.
