Ian McKellen will not participate in the final three performances of "Player Kings" in London’s West End due to injuries sustained from a fall. The acclaimed actor, known for his role as Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings," fractured his wrist and suffered other injuries after falling from the stage on Monday night.

The Noel Coward Theatre announced that David Semark will replace McKellen, who portrays John Falstaff, for the remaining performances while McKellen recuperates. The theater's statement confirmed, “McKellen will return when the production begins a national tour in two weeks’ time.”

Tuesday night’s performance was canceled due to the incident, which caused concern among the audience. McKellen assured fans and the press, telling Deadline, “Doctors have assured me that my recovery will be complete and speedy and I am looking forward to returning to work.”

With a career spanning more than six decades, the 85-year-old McKellen has earned numerous accolades, including a Tony Award, six Olivier Awards, a Golden Globe, five BAFTA Awards, five Emmys, and two Oscar nominations. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1991, McKellen remains a British cultural icon.
