About 900 fatalities reported in Punjab during Eid holidays

60 deaths occurred in road traffic crashes

During the Eid holidays, Punjab witnessed a total of 889 fatalities attributed to medical emergencies, 60 deaths from road traffic crashes, 26 casualties in crime incidents and 18 due to drowning. As many as 13 people died of electric shock, 10 from falls, slips, four in delivery cases, and 28 from miscellaneous emergencies, according to Secretary Emergency Services, Dr Rizwan Naseer.

Provincial Monitoring Officer briefed Dr Naseer that Rescue 1122 responded to a staggering 30,317 emergencies across all districts of Punjab during the Eid holidays.

These included 7,268 road traffic crashes, resulting in 60 fatalities; 18,932 medical emergencies, with 889 deaths; 711 crime incidents, causing 26 deaths; 666 fire emergencies, including 35 forest fires; 564 delivery cases; 527 falls and slipping cases; 392 occupational injuries; 176 cases of electric shock; 57 burn cases; 27 drowning emergencies; 749 miscellaneous emergencies, and 248 animal rescue operations.

Lahore reported the highest number of emergencies with 3,939 cases, followed by Faisalabad with 2,138, Gujranwala with 1,447, Bahawalpur with 1,321, Multan with 1,239, and the lowest number recorded in Jhelum at 288.

In a video link meeting, District Emergency Officer Lahore reported 139 fire emergencies during Eidul Azha, including two major incidents near the NAB office on Multan Road and a paper mill in Sunder Industrial Estate.

Major forest fires were also reported in Murree and along the Khajut Expressway.

Rescue operations were conducted for individuals trapped in various incidents, including a sewerage manhole accident on Multan Road, a gas explosion in a house on Hastiana Road in Faisalabad, and major traffic accidents in DG Khan, Mianwali, and Sheikhupura districts.

Dr Naseer expressed condolences for the lives lost and commended the efforts of rescuers.
