Anti-monarchy protest group, Republic, chanted “Down With The Crown” as thousands of royal fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal family at Buckingham Palace’s balcony during today's Trooping the Colour event.

Republic had announced earlier this week their intention to protest outside Buckingham Palace during the traditional ceremony. Graham Smith, a spokesman for Republic, stated: "Rather than having the parade to celebrate Charles's birthday, why not use the moment to celebrate the service given by our armed forces?"

Around 30 members of the protest group waved flags and chanted "Down With The Crown." The protesters lowered their black and yellow banners with the message "Not My King" just after noon, amidst cheers from royal supporters despite heavy rain and thunder.

According to the Republic’s website, the group advocates replacing the monarchy with an elected head of state and a more democratic political system. They argue for democratic reform and principles, aiming to eliminate an institution they believe serves only the few.

Trooping the Colour, an annual event marking the official birthday of the British Sovereign, has been a tradition since the 17th century. It features over 1,400 soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians, culminating in a Royal Air Force fly-past viewed from the palace balcony.
