T20 World Cup 2024: This ex-Indian cricketer wants to see US in Super 8, not Pakistan

Pakistan’s turnaround now would be nothing short of a miracle, says Sreesanth

Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth, during a discussion on Indian media, revealed his preference for seeing the United States team over Pakistan in the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan's performance has been underwhelming. They lost their first two matches against the US and India but managed a dominant victory over Canada in New York. Despite this win, their path to the Super 8 remains challenging.

Sreesanth criticised Pakistan's cricketing system, echoing sentiments previously expressed by cricket legends like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. He pointed out that Pakistan needs to overhaul its cricketing infrastructure, particularly its domestic leagues, to improve its international performance.

"Pakistan's cricket system needs a major overhaul. A turnaround now would be nothing short of a miracle," remarked Sreesanth.

He further added: “The US team prevailed because of their planning and execution in the past two years and they have worked hard. I want the US team to play in the Top 8 because they deserve it."

For Pakistan to advance to the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024, they will need a combination of favourable outcomes from the remaining Group A matches. The specific results needed are as follows:

  • June 14: USA vs Ireland – Pakistan will need Ireland to win this match.

  • June 15: Canada vs India – Pakistan will need India to secure a victory.

  • June 16: Ireland vs Pakistan – Pakistan must win this match against Ireland.

These results would improve Pakistan's chances of making it to the Super 8 stage, though the path remains challenging
