Funkmaster Flex slams Tommy Richman's 'Million Dollar Baby' on Hot 97

Funkmaster Flex, a long-standing figure in New York City's radio scene, expressed strong disapproval of Tommy Richman's hit song "Million Dollar Baby" during a recent segment on Hot 97. The DJ did not hold back, referring to fans of the song as "clowns" and questioning its musical quality.

“If you’re someone that likes this song, you are a clown,” Flex stated. He criticized the song further, saying, “This song… I don’t know what the rest of his songs sound like. I don’t even know who Tommy Richman is. Sounds like a shoe store. Now we’re gonna document this hot garbage. We’re gonna play it now, I know you want to hear it. I wonder if this is big in the club.”

During the segment, Flex also commented on the song's production, noting, “See this part is deceiving like it might be a good song,” referring to the song's intro. He continued, “Watch the terrible part as it comes in… where you hear the tin can drums,” as the beat started to build and Richman's voice emerged.

In a follow-up rant, Flex reiterated his disdain for the track, telling listeners, “I’m going to play a record suitable for New York in order to bring us back from the depths of Hell, from the depths of garbage,” and added that "Million Dollar Baby" “sounds like it was made on a Casio machine.” Flex even questioned his own career choices, saying the song makes him "question why he’s a DJ" and whether he has “aged out,” despite acknowledging the track's popularity.
