KARACHI:

Police have arrested six suspects allegedly involved in the theft of cattle worth millions of rupees. Thirty-five stolen heifers were recovered from them in the raid conducted near Sohrab Goth.

According to SSP East Dr Farrukh Raza, a trader from Rahim Yar Khan had brought his cattle to Karachi to sell at the cattle market near Northern Bypass. The suspects - identified as Zafar, Shah Murad, Phunnu, Qadir Bakhsh, Saeed Ahmed, and Usman - pretended to purchase 41 animals from the trader. They provided Rs400,000 as token money and loaded the cattle onto vehicles.

However, after reaching Al Azam Square, the suspects took out weapons and forced the trader out of the vehicles, escaping with all the cattle and parking them at a nearby fence.

Acting on information received through wireless control, the Site Superhighway police raided the premises and recovered 35 of the stolen calves.

According to SSP Dr Farrukh, the arrested suspects are being interrogated about the remaining six cattle.

In a separate incident, two armed motorcyclists robbed Rs1.2 million from a cattle market trader at Apsara Apartment in Liaquatabad No 10.

Rafiq Elahi, the trader, was returning home after selling animals in the cattle market when the robbers intercepted him and fled with the money.

A citizen filmed a video of the robbery on his mobile phone, showing the armed bandits robbing the trader at gunpoint.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and started an investigation.
