Artists captivate audience with classical music

‘Raag Rang Khayal Gaiki’ musical evening pays homage to rich traditions

A classical music event titled ‘Raag Rang Khayal Gayaki’ was organised at the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) in Rawalpindi.

The event was graced by the artists, Nadeem Riaz Khan, Ghulam Abbas, and Muhammad Ishaq Qureshi, who performed ragas to great applause from the audience. The special guest at the gathering was the Director of the Arts Council, Sajjad Hussain along with Adnan Khaliq Bhatti and Muhammad Suleman.

Sajjad Hussain, speaking at the event said, “The beautiful colours of classical music, including Thumri, Dadra, Kafi, and Khayal Gayaki, can never be fully appreciated without mentioning the Sham Chaurasi, Patiala, Talwandi, Gwalior and Kasur gharanas.” He highlighted that many singers, including Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Barkat Ali Khan, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan, Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, and Asad Amanat Ali Khan, had nurtured classical music. “Ghulam Farid Sabri and Aziz Mian, along with many other Qawwals, also elevated this genre of music to great heights,” he added.

Assistant Director, Muhammad Suleman, in his speech, remarked that it was highly necessary to introduce the younger generation to their traditions and culture, so that they have the opportunity to learn about their history, geographical boundaries and ancestors. “Classical and traditional music gatherings preserve our culture and heritage. A musical event is not only a source of entertainment but also an opportunity for people to enjoy various musical styles and appreciate music,” he said. A large number of people from neighbouring cities participated in the event.
