A young man was stabbed to death and 17 street crime and motorcycle theft incidents were reported in various areas of the capital on Tuesday.
According to the police, a young man named Muhammad Akhlaq was stabbed to death in the IT Centre of the same police station area on Monday morning. The police took the body into their custody and handed it over to the family. Akhlaq was employed at Aziz Plaza in the IT Centre where the perpetrator went and committed the crime.
The motive behind his killing has yet to be ascertained, said the police, adding that a case has been registered.
In a separate incident, two policemen were injured in a shootout on Monday. According to the police, Constable Abdul Kareem and Constable Fahad of Sabzi Mandi police station were on duty near a wheat warehouse on IJP Road. They signaled to stop two individuals on a motorcycle, but instead of stopping they opened fire on the policemen. In retaliation, the police fired back and in the exchange of fire, Fahad was hit in his feet while Abdul Kareem suffered injuries in his chest. One of the motorcyclists was also injured in the incident. Following the incident, the police cordoned off the area in an attempt to apprehend the suspects, but they managed to escape.
Sources said that 10 street crimes occurred in which citizens were deprived of their mobile phones and cash. Additionally, seven motorcycles were stolen in eight separate incidents and one house robbery took place. These incidents took place in the limits of the City, Rural and Saddar Zone.
