OKARA:

District Police Officer (DPO) Okara Tariq Aziz has taken action after a video showing some individuals torturing two women in Mohalla Ahmedabad within the jurisdiction of Police Station B Division went viral.

The police have arrested the accused and registered a case.

The victim had already filed six cases against the perpetrators.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, DPO Tariq Aziz Sindhu detailed the incident involving Manzoran, a widow residing in Mohalla Ahmedabad, who ran a small shop with her daughter Ayesha.

A young man named Muzamil, married with a son, had an alleged relationship with Ayesha. Muzamil proposed to Ayesha, but her mother, Manzoran, set conditions: Muzamil had to divorce his first wife, provide a separate house, and register a commercial shop in Ayesha's name.

After agreeing to these terms, Ayesha and Muzamil married with Manzoran's approval, but Ayesha continued to live with her mother.

Subsequently, Manzoran discovered that Muzamil did not own a shop, leading to tension. In February 2023, Manzoran reported to the police that Muzamil and his accomplices, Allah Rakha, Allah Dutta, and Shan, had sexually assaulted Ayesha. Preliminary investigations led to the registration of a case.

A medical report later revealed that Ayesha had been pregnant and had an abortion 15 days prior.

Muzamil was found guilty, had his bail cancelled, and was sent to jail, while the other accused were declared innocent.

Muzamil appealed to the Lahore High Court, claiming his marriage to Ayesha as a defence, resulting in bail and transfer of the trial to the sessions court.

Meanwhile, Ayesha filed for annulment of the marriage.

The conflict between the two families escalated, with multiple cases registered by Manzoran against Muzamil and his associates.

Tensions peaked when Muzamil and his accomplices assaulted Manzoran and Ayesha with sticks near their home after a court visit.

The video of this assault went viral, prompting DPO Tariq Aziz to intervene. The police arrested the accused and charged them with torturing the women.

Manzoran claims that despite court orders, the influential Muzamil and his associates were not arrested promptly due to alleged inaction by SHO Police Station B Division, Riaz Hussain Bhatti.

She accused Bhatti of conspiring with the accused, leading to the continued harassment and eventual assault.

DPO Tariq Aziz emphasized that violence against women would not be tolerated and that protecting their honour is the police's top priority.

He announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate all the cases filed by Manzoran Bibi, ensuring a thorough and unbiased inquiry.
