TikTok launches a feature similar to Snapchat’s streaks
To increase user engagement and encourage longer stays on the platform, TikTok is experimenting with streaks, similar to those found on Snapchat.
TikTok acknowledged that it is trialing the feature but refrained from offering any official statement regarding it. The company mentioned that it is testing the streaks feature in specific markets and with a select group of users.
The guidelines for earning a streak are straightforward: Maintain a direct message conversation with someone for at least three consecutive days. Once achieved, a streak badge will appear in the chat, showcasing the number of consecutive days of the streak.
Over the past few days, numerous users have taken to social media to share their encounters with TikTok's streaks feature within the app.
A streak concludes if neither participant sends messages in a chat within 24 hours of the previous message. TikTok prompts users when their streak is nearing its end to encourage them to maintain the conversation.
How to turn off the TikTok streak feature and notifications
Users have the option to disable these notifications by accessing Settings > Privacy > Notifications > Streak settings. Within this menu, there is also a toggle for turning off in-app streak notifications.
Traditionally, Snapchat streaks have served as a status symbol among friends, demonstrating the closeness of a relationship and the frequency of interactions. TikTok is aiming to evoke a similar sentiment with its adaptation of the streak feature.
Last year, Snapchat capitalized on this trend by introducing a paid feature that enables users to temporarily pause a streak. Additionally, the company implemented a feature allowing users to restore streaks.
