Pharrell Williams has taken a creative leap with the release of the first trailer for his innovative Lego biopic, 'Piece by Piece'. Directed by Morgan Neville, known for his acclaimed documentary '20 Feet from Stardom', the film promises a unique cinematic experience.
The trailer kicks off showcasing Lego avatars of Williams and Neville brainstorming the concept. Williams pitches the idea, saying, “You know what would be cool? If we told my story with Lego!” This line sets the tone for a film that aims to break traditional storytelling boundaries.
'Piece by Piece' is not just a narrative about Williams' rise to fame as one of the world’s leading record producers with hits like “Happy”, “Blurred Lines”, and “Milkshake”, but a celebration of creativity.
The film features appearances by famous collaborators such as Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, and Busta Rhymes, all in Lego form.
In a statement, Williams expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the joy and imagination that Lego brings.
“When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through Lego bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than Morgan. He is a legend. Grateful that Focus wanted to collaborate with us and I’m honored to share this with the world and bring people into my universe,” he said.
Neville shared his excitement about the project, recalling how the idea immediately captivated him.
“Five years ago, Pharrell Williams approached me with the idea of helping him tell his story through Lego animation. It was one of those rare moments where I knew in a second that this was a journey I wanted to go on,” he explained.
Peter Kujawski from Focus Features praised Williams' influential and joyful impact on global culture and expressed excitement about bringing this vision to life in collaboration with Lego.
He said, “Pharrell Williams is a true trailblazer whose influence across music, art, and fashion continually reshapes global culture with an undeniable sense of joy."
Set for release on October 11, 'Piece by Piece' aims to inspire audiences to embrace their creativity and build their dreams, one Lego brick at a time.
