Nasir Javed Rana relinquishes post after completion of three-year deputation

ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad Accountability Court-I Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who was hearing the £190 million corruption case, has stepped down after completing his deputation period.

Judge Rana, previously a district and session judge in Islamabad, was appointed as the accountability court judge on February 19, following the retirement of his predecessor Muhammad Bashir.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on February 19, Nasir Javed Rana was appointed as a judge of Islamabad Accountability Court-I until January 24, 2027.

However, the judge, who had been serving in Islamabad on a three-year deputation, relinquished the position after completing the deputation period. His services have been returned to the Lahore High Court (LHC).

In Judge Nasir Javed Rana's court, important cases involving President Asif Zardari and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif were being heard. He was also presiding over the hearing of the £190 million corruption case in which former prime minister Imran Khan is also an accused.

Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich of Accountability Court-II has been given additional charge of Accountability Court-I for a period of three months. The Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification regarding this matter.

Judge Rana’s predecessor, Muhammad Bashir, served as the Islamabad Accountability Court-I judge for a record 11 years and convicted two former prime ministers—Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan—in corruption cases
