RAWALPINDI:

A young woman and a man attempted suicide and jumped into a nullah in the limits of Kahuta police station on Wednesday.

After receiving information about the incident, the rescue workers reached the site and rescued the woman while the man drowned in the deep water and died.

According to the police, a case of abduction of a 21-year-old student, a resident of the Kallar Syedan area, was registered against unknown persons at the Kallar Syedan police station on June 1. The police were actively searching for the abductee when they received information that a young woman and man had jumped into the water from a height to end their lives in Nullah Linga.

Residents immediately pulled the girl out alive, but the boy could not be found. Rescue 1122 eventually recovered the boy, but he had already died.

The woman and the body were taken to the hospital by Rescue 1122. DSP Kahuta Tahir Sikandar and SHO Kahuta Aziz Aslam arrived and collected evidence. The deceased was identified as a resident of the Kahuta area.

The police said that the girl's initial statement revealed that she had befriended 23-year-old Zain Ansar from Kahuta on a social networking site. They shared a mutual interest in singing and often exchanged songs on the same website. The girl stated that they had accepted each other online and had travelled together around Lahore and other places before returning. They were both standing on the edge of Nullah Linga when Zain grabbed her hand and jumped into the water.

DSP Kahuta Tahir Sikandar said that the girl would be produced in court to record her statement. The incident report has been filed at the Kahuta police station, and an investigation has started.
