DRAP unearths fake antibiotic manufacturer
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has unearthed a company for making fake antibiotics and supplying them across Punjab.
Sources told The Express Tribune that the officials conducted raids in different cities and seized antibiotic suspension Frugozyme 100mg (5ml).

After the medicine was declared counterfeited, the authority banned its sale and use. Officials found the fake address of Korangi Karachi on the medicine’s packet.
A DRAP team found Furozyme Suspension at a pharmacy in Kallu Kot Bazaar in Bhakkar. The drug inspector sent samples to the Drug Testing Laboratory Rawalpindi which declared batch 100/S-005 of Frogzyme as fake and substandard. The antibiotic suspension has been manufactured from Cefixime USP which is used in throat and chest infections.

The provincial field teams have been instructed through a DRAP letter to seize the stock of Furozyme Suspension from the market and inform distributors and chemists immediately.
According to the DRAP’s alert, Furozyme drug is unregistered and not licensed by any company. Counterfeit medicines are ineffective during treatment and can have fatal reactions.
