Shania Twain reveals shocking details about ex-husband leaving her for best friend
Country music legend Shania Twain, 58, continues to thrive in her career while opening up about her personal life, including her former marriage to music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange. Lange and Twain were married for 14 years before he reportedly left her for her best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, in 2008. Twain addressed this experience in a recent appearance on the podcast “Great Company with Jamie Laing.”
“Forgiveness is in the family of letting go,” Twain said. “But forgiveness, more specifically for me anyway, is not really about forgetting, necessarily. It’s about understanding the other person, and that might mean that they’re, you know, wrong. Maybe you believe forever that whatever they did was wrong.”
She continued, “Do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? No. It’s his mistake. Not my mistake. So sad for him that he made such a great mistake that he has to live with. And I don’t know what that is, but that’s not on my weight.”
Twain has previously spoken about the situation. In a 2015 interview with Andy Cohen, she revealed that Lange left her for Thiebaud, saying at the time that if she could tell her former friend anything, it would be, “I wish I’d never met you.”
Since her divorce, Twain has moved on and is now married to Frédéric Thiébaud, Marie-Anne Thiebaud’s former husband. Twain has also overcome dysphonia, embarked on a recently sold-out tour, and secured two Las Vegas residencies. Despite the personal challenges, Twain has refrained from publicly speaking ill of her former best friend, showcasing a commitment to forgiveness and resilience.
