Farmers staged a sit-in protest against the irrigation department because of the non-supply of irrigation water in the Jamwah and Jam Sahib areas. They expressed their frustration over the shortage of water for the past three months by setting tyres on fire and chanting slogans against authorities.
Demonstrators complained that thousands of acres of cotton, sugarcane, rice, vegetable, and mango gardens planted in the Jam Sahib had been destroyed due to the lack of irrigation water for the last three months. This has sparked widespread concern among farmers, who fear losses amounting to millions of rupees.
Protesters have made a serious allegation, claiming that the irrigation officials are selling their portion of water to the landlords in exchange for hefty bribes. This has destroyed their crops, leaving thousands of acres of land barren and causing losses worth millions of rupees to the farmers.
The protesters urged the chief minister to take immediate action against the irrigation officials and ensure the provision of water to affected farmers to prevent an economic catastrophe.
