TikToker Ali Abulaban convicted for double murder of wife Ana and friend Ray Barron
Following deliberation spanning two days, a jury reached a verdict, finding Ali Abulaban guilty on two counts of first-degree murder, along with firearms enhancements, for the deaths of his wife, Ana Abulaban, and her friend, Rayburn Barron.
Ali, who remained composed during the verdict reading, became emotional and wept once the jury exited the courtroom.
He could potentially receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole when his sentencing takes place on June 28, 2024.
Ali did not dispute that he shot and killed the victims. However, he contended that the shootings were a crime of passion, triggered by his discovery of his wife's affair with another man.
Prosecutors asserted that Ali had covertly recorded the apartment to catch his wife in the act of infidelity and arrived armed with a loaded gun.
"He carefully weighed his options," prosecutors stated, "he decided to kill before he entered that apartment and shot Ana and Ray to death."
During testimony that spanned several days and set a courtroom record for the longest time a defendant spent on the witness stand, Ali confessed to having abused Ana on multiple occasions.
"I snapped,"Ali recounted, recalling one incident in their bed. "I rolled on top of Ana and I began punching her."
His attorneys contended that he was "emotionally, mentally, physically compromised" and did not premeditate the fatal assault.
Abulaban, recognized as JinnKid on TikTok and having amassed nearly a million online followers prior to the shooting, rose to fame for his comedy sketches and celebrity impersonations, notably portraying Tony Montana from "Scarface". Additionally, he was known for sharing content featuring his wife.
