Glen Powell teases "wild" take on “Batman” that rivals Michael Keaton's portrayal

Actor Glen Powell has shared his thoughts on potentially playing Batman, suggesting he would bring a distinct approach to the iconic superhero role. In an interview with GQ, Powell expressed his admiration for Batman and hinted at a unique take on the character.

"I was always a Batman guy," Powell said. "I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to [Michael] Keaton." This reference to Keaton aligns with Powell's preference for the 1989 Batman film directed by Tim Burton.

During the GQ interview, Powell toured the Warner Bros. Studio lot and expressed excitement upon seeing Keaton's Batmobile. "Oh, sick! See? This is the era," he remarked, showcasing his fondness for the classic portrayal of the character.

Despite his interest in Batman, Powell indicated a general disinterest in playing superheroes. The actor recalled his brief appearance in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," where he had an encounter with Bane. "I get my head smashed in by Bane in 'The Dark Knight Rises,'" Powell recounted.

Powell's career began as a child actor in "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" and has included roles in "The Expendables 3," "Everybody Wants Some!!," "Hidden Figures," and "Set It Up." His breakout role in "Top Gun: Maverick" alongside Tom Cruise significantly boosted his profile.

While speculation continues about who will portray Batman in James Gunn's DC Universe, Powell remains a potential candidate. The upcoming "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" film has sparked interest among actors, including Alan Ritchson.

Powell also spoke highly of David Corenswet, the newly cast Superman, with whom he worked on the upcoming film "Twisters." "But I was on the set of 'Twisters' with [newly-anointed Clark Kent] David Corenswet when he got the call. He’s a hustler and he deserves it," Powell said.

"Twisters," directed by Lee Isaac Chung with a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, is scheduled for release on July 19, 2024, and stars Powell alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos.
