Seven Traffic Police officers have been terminated and the service tenure of eight others has been reduced by two years in a decisive action to weed out corruption from the department.
According to a Traffic Police spokesperson, during a surprise visit by DIG Traffic Ahmad Nawaz, officials at the Shireen Jinnah Traffic Section, including a section officer, a record keeper, and five constables, were found accepting bribes from drivers of heavy traffic.
Consequently, they were relieved of their positions.
Moreover, officials from the Sharae Faisal Traffic Section were found issuing challans without the presence of an authorised officer, which is strictly prohibited.
As a result, the DIG ordered a two-year reduction in the service tenure for the section officer and four traffic police constables for this violation.
Similarly, two years of service tenure were deducted from a head constable and two constables from the Akbar Road. Traffic Section after a video of them conducting illegal checks went viral on social media.
According to the spokesperson, the DIG Traffic emphasised that strict departmental action will be taken against officers who tarnish the reputation of the department.
