SC to hear NAB amendments case on May 30

Incarcerated ex-premier Imran to make virtual appearance again

ISLAMABAD:

The apex court on Tuesday scheduled the hearing of the NAB amendment case on May 30 with Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa leading a five-member bench.

Earlier on May 14, the SC granted permission to former premier Imran Khan to appear in the court via video link in the NAB amendments case.

On May 16, federal government lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan presented arguments on the appeal, claiming that the apex court’s majority decision to nullify the NAB amendments was not correct. He added that the main petitioner, Imran Khan, neither approached the court in good faith nor was he affected by the NAB amendments.

During the PTI government, Khan said, amendments were made to the NAB Act through a presidential ordinance. After the no-confidence motion, he continued, the new government retained the amendments made through ordinances.

After the former premier’s pictures went viral on social media, an investigation was initiated to ascertain the identity of the individual who leaked the pictures.
