Zayn Malik says he was kicked off Tinder for “catfishing”
Zayn Malik has opened up about his music, his upcoming album "Room Under the Stairs," and his past relationships.
In a recent Nylon magazine interview featured on its May cover, the ex-One Direction member, who has had relationships with Perrie Edwards from Little Mix and Gigi Hadid (with whom he has a daughter), confessed to trying the dating app Tinder, but it didn't work out as he hoped.
“It’s not been too successful for me, I’ll be honest,” he revealed. “Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’ I’ve been kicked off once or twice.”
Currently, the singer of "Dusk Till Dawn" isn't using apps to meet new people. Instead, he's savoring this independent phase of his life.
He also mentioned, “I’m really content and happy with being single for the first time in my life.”
Malik began dating Edwards during his time in the famous British boy band One Direction. Although they were once engaged, they ended their relationship in 2015.
Later in the same year, he began a relationship with Hadid, which was on and off. They had their daughter, Khai, in 2020. However, the couple broke up the next year.
“It’s probably wise to take your time before you fully invest in another human being as a lifelong partner,” remarked the "Pillowtalk" singer, highlighting that he's gained significant insights into life, relationships, and parenthood throughout his experiences.
“I only have my daughter 50 percent of the time. I would have her 90 percent if I could. We go see Disney on Ice or we go see the Nickelodeon theme park. Or we go to the beach. That’s how I get out.”
Earlier this month, Malik expressed regret on the Zach Sang Show for not fully valuing his time in One Direction. The band, which included Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, catapulted him to stardom.
“The main thing that I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough,” he elaborated.
“I feel like I just took things too seriously, you know? I’m grateful that I’m able to be happier now. I can actually enjoy things and own my own perspective a bit, you know? Like, glass half full versus it being half empty. That’s my choice.”
