Conservation: Historical sites damaged in rains

KARACHI:
The secretary for Sindh’s culture department, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, held a meeting with the curators of Moen jo Daro, Makli, Bhambore and Umerkot Fort to assess the damages caused to archaeological sites in the province because of rains. It was decided in the meeting that remedial measures will be initiated for the protection and preservation of these sites, according to a statement issued on Tuesday. The curators informed the culture secretary that there is partial damage to the Moen jo Dare site, Naukot and Umerkot forts. A scheme for the preservation of the Naukot Fort, at a cost of Rs3 million, will be launched soon in collaboration with Endowment Fund Trust of the provincial government for the preservation of Sindh’s cultural heritage.
