Tabu joins Dune: Prophecy prequel series in recurring role

Max's upcoming prequel series "Dune: Prophecy" has added legendary Indian actress Tabu to its ensemble cast in a recurring role. 

The series, based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's novel "Sisterhood of Dune," delves into the events 10,000 years before the rise of Paul Atreides, chronicling the journey of two Harkonnen sisters as they confront forces threatening humanity's future and establish the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.

Tabu, a two-time National Film Award winner and seven-time Filmfare Award recipient, will portray Sister Francesca, a character described as "strong, intelligent, and alluring," whose return to the palace disrupts the power dynamics in the capital. 

With an illustrious career spanning critically acclaimed films like "Maachis," "Chandni Bar," "Haider," and "Andhadhun," Tabu brings her immense talent and experience to the Dune universe.

Joining Tabu in the cast are Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and others. 

The series has faced several production hurdles, including showrunner changes and a creative reset in 2023, but is now on track with Alison Schapker serving as showrunner and executive producer.

"Dune: Prophecy" is co-produced by Max and Legendary Television, the latter also producing the successful "Dune" film franchise, which has garnered over $1.1 billion at the box office with two instalments released so far. A third film is currently in development.
