In response to the recent heavy rains, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has underscored the necessity for heightened efforts, emphasising the need for increased vigilance in combating dengue.

Addressing stakeholders at the third meeting of the Dengue, Infectious Diseases, and Disaster Management Committee, he called upon all commissioners and deputy commissioners to escalate dengue surveillance measures.

The meeting, chaired by Minister Rafique, convened at the Civil Secretariat to deliberate on strategies to mitigate the dengue threat.

During the session, the minister emphasised the collective responsibility in controlling the spread of dengue, urging personal oversight from commissioners and deputy commissioners in anti-dengue operations.

Highlighting the importance of community engagement, he enlisted the support of religious leaders to disseminate awareness messages through Friday sermons.

Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan provided a comprehensive update on infectious and epidemic diseases, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The meeting, attended by key officials including Professor Waseem Akram and representatives via video link, stressed the urgency of the situation.

The minister reiterated the government's commitment to combating dengue, directing secretaries to ensure swift implementation of decisions made during the meeting.

He emphasised the prioritisation of revamping major hospitals and urged Schools Education secretary to enforce anti-dengue activities in educational institutions.

With 79 confirmed cases of dengue reported in Punjab, Minister Rafique urged concerted efforts at the district level, mobilizing every department to tackle the threat effectively.

As the rains continue, the government remains steadfast in its resolve to safeguard public health and mitigate the spread of infectious diseases.
