Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said on Monday the nation owes its independence and security to the sacrifices of martyrs.

According to an ISPR statement, the army chief expressed these remarks during an investiture ceremony held at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

During the ceremony, the COAS conferred military awards upon army personnel for their acts of gallantry during operations and meritorious services rendered to the nation.

The statement said that a large number of senior army officers and families of awardees attended the ceremony.

Officers and soldiers were awarded medals including Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat. Medals of martyrs were received by their family members.

Paying rich tribute to martyrs and war heroes, the COAS said, “There is nothing more noble than laying one’s life for the defence of motherland and the sacrifices of our martyrs strengthen our resolve to fight with utmost dedication and spirit of sacrifice”.

The army chief also lauded the brave families of the martyrs for their high spirits and sacrifices rendered by them. He said that martyrs and war heroes are the country’s national heroes and the nation owes its independence and security to the sacrifices of its valiant warriors.

“Our Shuhada are, indeed, the beacons of hope and resilience for the nation,” he concluded.
