Actor Steve Buscemi latest victim of random attack in Manhattan

Police are investigating the attack that left Buscemi bloody and bruised after being punched in the face.

Steve Buscemi, the acclaimed actor known for roles in "Boardwalk Empire," "The Sopranos," and "Fargo," was randomly attacked in Manhattan last Wednesday.

Buscemi, 66, was walking near Third Avenue and East 27th Street in Kips Bay when a stranger punched him in the face. 

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with bruising, swelling, and bleeding in his left eye. 
The attacker has not been apprehended, and an investigation is ongoing.

This incident follows a similar attack in April on actor Michael Stuhlbarg, Buscemi's former co-star in "Boardwalk Empire." 

Stuhlbarg was assaulted with a rock in Central Park but was not seriously injured.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in midtown Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist said in the statement. “He is OK and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened while also walking the streets of New York.”

Both attacks have heightened concerns about random violence in New York City, particularly after several young women posted TikTok videos of being randomly struck by strangers this spring.
Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former firefighter, is currently hosting the television show "Park Bench with Steve Buscemi."
