Zendaya's longtime stylist Law Roach isn't letting bygones be bygones! On "The Cutting Room Floor" podcast, Roach dished out about the early days of dressing Zendaya, revealing that some major fashion houses shut them out when she was first starting out.
Roach called these brands the "big five" - Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, and Valentino. According to him, he'd try to secure outfits for Zendaya from these labels but kept getting the brush-off. "Try again next year," they'd say, because Zendaya was apparently "too green" or not important enough. "I still have the receipts," Roach said, hinting he remembers these rejections clearly. He even pointed out that Zendaya hadn't worn a single piece from them by the time she graced the cover of American Vogue in 2017!
Now, Roach clarifies that Zendaya has rocked some of these designers' clothes in photo shoots, but never for red carpets or public appearances. "Not a single red carpet, press event, nada," Roach emphasized. "The first time she wore Valentino in public, it was because of a contract." This cold shoulder seems to have left a mark on Roach, because as he said, "I told them 'If you say no, it's a no forever,' and that sure seems to be the case."
Despite Roach's previous plans to retire from celebrity styling, he continues to work his magic with Zendaya. Their latest team-up? Dressing her as a co-chair at this year's Met Gala, where she rocked not one, but two iconic looks!
