Alleged operative of extortionist gang held

Suspect gave information of potential targets to bosses bases outside the country

KARACHI:

An alleged operative of Ahmed Magsi group was arrested by the PIB Colony police during a raid.

The police apprehended the suspect on charges of extortion and recovered weapons from him.

PIB Colony police on a tip-off conducted a raid and nabbed the suspect Obaid Ullah, who was involved in extortion activities. Illegal weapons and mobile phones were recovered from his possession.

SSP East Dr. Farrukh Razasaid that the arrested indi-vidual was associated with the Ahmad Magsi group, which collaborated with a group in Iran to carry out extortion.

The arrested accused had called a cloth merchant Muhammad Nazim from Iran, demanding ransom and warning of dire consequences if the ransom money was not paid.

The arrested accused is a neighbour of Nazim. He shared details about Nazim with an individual named Waqas in Iran. A case was registered on the complaint of Nazim at PIB Colony police station.

Additionally, a separate case on charge of possessing illegal weapons against the suspect has been filed. The suspect will be handed over to the SIU for further legal action.

Telephone records and voice recordings of the terrorists in Iran from the suspect’s mobile phone has been retrieved.

Moreover, forensic analysis will be carried out on the suspect’s phone. The suspect is being interrogated and operations are underway to apprehend his accomplices.
