Patty Jenkins confirms Wonder Woman 3 cancelled “probably easily forever”

The director talks about Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Wonder Woman 3.

Patty Jenkins has given an update on film projects that she’s been attached to including Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

While appearing on Max’s Talking Pictures Podcast, Ben Mankiewicz, the filmmaker said another sequel in the Wonder Woman franchise will most likely never happen.

“Yeah, for the time being, but probably easily forever,” she said in response to a question about a third Wonder Woman installment being shelved.

Jenkins was in the process of creating a third film in the series with Gal Gadot. 

However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran assuming control of DC Studios, they had a new direction in mind for the DCEU, resulting in the temporary cancellation of Wonder Woman 3.

While Jenkins will not be involved in the development of another film for the DCEU, she is currently engaged in the creation of a movie set within the Star Wars universe. 

“So, when I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3, so we started a deal for that to happen.

Jenkins added, “When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows?”

Jenkins noted that Lucasfilm has “a hard job in front of them of what’s the first movie they’re going to do. 

“They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron,” Jenkins continued. “We’ll see what happens. We need to get it to where we’re both super happy with it.”

“If I can do something beautiful and do something that serves that audience, I would love to do it,” she added.
