VEHARI:

Local residents have appealed to the government to improve the maintenance of the Kausar Park in view of its deteriorating condition.

A resident, Naveed Anjum, told The Express Tribune, “There are piles of garbage at various places in the park, due to which infectious diseases and dengue mosquitoes are spreading in the area.”

Another resident, Muhammad Khalil, said drug addicts have also started camping in the park”.

A visitor said that due to the negligence of the district administration, the Kausar Park built in the 9/11 area, gives the appearance of a garbage dump.

The residents claimed that walking tracks of the park have broken down, while swings, gates and windowpanes have been stolen by addicts.

Before its condition worsened, the park was viewed as an affordable entertainment spot.

Nasir Khan, who lives near the park, said the Clean Punjab programme had also not resulted in any improvement in the environment of the park.

On the other hand, municipal committee officials, responding to the complaints, cited lack of funds as the cause of the poor conditions of the park.

A spokesperson for the committee stated, “Restoration work of the parks will be done with the funds that will be received in June after the budget will be announced ”.
