Celebratory firing at the wedding ceremony of the brother of the SSP City's PSO claimed the life of a transporter in Lyari neighbourhood of the metropolis on Sunday.
The victim, identified as 40-year-old Muhammad Israr Niazi, sustained a bullet in his chest which proved fatal. The wedding ceremony was taking place in the Tughlaq Line area near Lyari General Hospital.
Israr, a resident of Tughlaq Line and childless, was the third of six brothers.
While speaking to the media at the Civil Hospital, eyewitnesses said that Israr and his friends were attending the wedding festivities when indiscriminate gunfire erupted, plunging the vicinity into panic.
Despite seeking shelter in a nearby rickshaw, Israr fell victim to a stray bullet, which proved fatal.
Police handed over Israr's body to his grieving brothers following medico-legal formalities at the Cicil Hospital.
The Chakiwara police's alleged attempt to shield the SSP's PSO from culpability has stirred controversy, prompting Israr's family and relatives to demand justice.
Despite the police reluctance, the victim's family is determined to ensure that the true perpetrators are held accountable, seeking to file an FIR against those responsible.
