Alleged criminal killed in police ‘shootout’ in Taxila

An alleged criminal was killed during a crossfire with the police in the Taxila area on early Saturday, police said. The suspect was wanted in several cases of robbery and other crimes by the Rawalpindi police.

A police team was engaged in night patrolling in the Taxila area when cops tried to stop three motorcyclists for checking. The suspects instead opened fire. A crossfire happened between the two sides as a result one of the suspects later identified as Taj alias Sheena suffered bullets and died. His accomplices however managed to escape.

Soon after the incident, senior police officers also rushed to the spot. The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination and circumstantial evidence was collected from the crime scene. A case was registered on behalf of the state.

Police teams were formed to arrest the absconding accused. Rawalpindi SSP Operations Hafiz Kamran Asghar praised the police team for fighting bravely with the criminals, saying the suspect was killed by the firing of his accomplices He made it clear that the criminals who would target the lives and properties of citizens and the police wouldn’t escape the grip of the law.
