Minister for Special Healthcare & Medical Education and Emergency Services, Punjab, Khawaja Salman Rafique, honoured the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, safeguarding lives and properties of citizens.

Remembering the 23 martyrs of Rescue 1122 as national heroes, he emphasised their invaluable contribution to community safety.

Observing a moment of silence and praying for the martyrs, the event underscored the importance of implementing the Punjab Community Safety Buildings Regulations 2022 to ensure public safety.

Congratulating the best fire rescuers of 2023, Secretary Emergency Services, Dr Rizwan Naseer, hailed them as true heroes who risk their lives to protect others. He paid tribute to Hanzala Malik for his efforts in facilitating modern fire training for Rescue 1122 personnel through a Memorandum of Understanding with Glasgow Fire Service and Rescue Service Pakistan.

Dr Naseer highlighted Rescue 1122's achievements, responding to over 231,056 fire incidents in Punjab in the past 18 years, saving an estimated Rs664 billion worth of losses.

He noted Rescue 1122's distinction as the first United Nations-certified team in South Asia.

Encouraging public compliance with safety regulations, Dr Naseer urged the installation of fire hydrants, alarm systems, emergency exits, and stairs in high-rise buildings.

Acknowledging and awarding the best fire rescuers of Punjab, Dr Naseer emphasised their bravery and selflessness in the face of danger, highlighting their pivotal role in saving lives during emergencies.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Best Performance Award 2023 to three outstanding fire rescuers at the provincial level.
