Inter-city bus terminals to be relocated
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Saturday presided a meeting at his office to review shifting of inter-city bus stands from city area to outside the city and implementing ban on entering heavy traffic during day time.
The meeting decided to remove illegal inter-city bus stands which are creating inconvenience to other motorists and area peiople besides causing traffic jams. Naqvi directed to strictly enforce ban on entry of heavy vehicles in the city during day time. The meeting also reviewed proposed projects to relocate bus stands and identified areas along the Superhighway.
Secretary Transport, Asad Zaman provided an overview of Sindh government's proposed bus terminal project, detailing the government's efforts and presenting suggestions to the meeting.
DIG Traffic said that heavy traffic is not allowed to enter the city from 6am to 11pm. He informed that people were facing problems due to illegal bus stands at Taj Complex, Qayoomabad, Karimabad, Cantt Station and other places in the city.
Meeting also decided that Traffic Engineering Bureau (TEB) would be mobilised to improve traffic system in city while TEB and traffic police were directed to take joint measures to overcome lack of traffic signals and lane marking. The meeting was also informed that traffic police proposed to government to fund TEB from its traffic fine revenue to meet expenses which may occur on traffic signals, road lane marking and traffic signs.
