President Asif Ali Zardari appointed on Saturday the governors of Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

PPP’s Faisal Karim Kundi, PML-N’s Jaffar Khan Mandokhel, and PPP’s Sardar Saleem Haider Khan have been appointed governors of the K-P, Balochistan, and Punjab respectively.

The president made the appointments in accordance with Articles 48(1) and 101 of the Constitution.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday finalised the names of the governors in their meeting at the PM house.

Faisal Karim Kundi, a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, is currently the information secretary of the PPP, while Jaffar Khan Mandokhel, a senior PML-N leader, has been elected as a member of the Balochistan Assembly multiple times.

Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has prior experience of working as a special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistanis. He has also served as the minister of state for defence and defence production.

Interestingly, the PPP, the third largest party in the National Assembly, is not part of the PML-N lead coalition government despite helping it into power.

Currently, the PTI rules the K-P and the PML-N rules Punjab province. The PPP has provincial governments both in Balochistan and Sindh provinces.

Ifti Malik | 7 months ago | Reply Unfortunately this system for gubernatorial appointments only brings forth biased partisan people with party loyalties -- indeed the opposite of what the Constitution of Pakistan envisaged I.e objective and unbiased honest and sincere appointees of high moral standing. A proper mechanism needs to be set up for selection and appointment of governors by the president of Pakistan and there should also be no provincial domicile restrictions in such a process. Maybe our present government can rise above party politics and think of the nation and federation
