Hot days expected in metropolis

PMD forecasts hot gusts of Balochistan coming to city

KARACHI:

The port city experienced a relatively hot day on Sunday, with mercury inching up by 2.9 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees while 45% humidity to 45% made the actual temperature feel higher, said Chief Meteorologist Karachi Dr. Sardar Sarfaraz.

"Hot desert winds of Balochistan are expected in the city," Sarfaraz said, adding "there will be a pause in the cool sea breeze and the mercury may rise up to 39 degrees Celsius during the partial heatwave and humidity will drop to less than 20 per cent."

He said there was no chance of a real heatwave in which temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius persist for four or more days. However, with the sea breeze gone and hot gusts from Balochistan sweeping through the city, people are likely to feel extreme heat.

According to the forecast of the Early Warning Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of a partial heat wave due to the short-term cessation of sea breezes, during which the maximum mercury will reach 39 degrees.

According to the Early Warning Centre, the weather is expected to remain hot and dry in other parts of the province.
