Planning for King Charles’s funeral under way: source
King Charles III's cancer diagnosis has raised concerns among friends and palace insiders.
Tom Sykes of the Daily Beast reported, “speaking to friends of the king in recent weeks about his health, the most common response is … ‘It’s not good.'”
A friend of the king stated that Charles “is determined to beat it and they are throwing everything at it,” adding, “Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on.”
Tina Brown, a royal writer, suggested that Charles' cancer has brought Prince William and Kate Middleton closer to becoming king and queen sooner than they had planned, potentially impacting their desire for privacy while raising their children.
“The prospect of it, I am told, is causing them intense anxiety.”
Sykes also reported that the king’s funeral plans is codenamed “Operation Menai Bridge” and is currently being reviewed.
The Daily Beast reports that there is a circulating document detailing the successes and areas for improvement from Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022, aiming to better prepare for future monarchs' funerals.
While all sources emphasised the ongoing review of royal funeral plans, one former staffer acknowledged that Charles' health issues have accelerated the need to update these plans.
“The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date,” the former employee clarified.
