The women police have arrested the husband and father-in-law of a woman on the charges of torturing her and throwing her out of their home for not allowing him to marry again.
According to SHO Madiha Irshad, Mehreen Shehzadi, a resident of Sulaimaniya Colony had filed a complaint stating that she had been married to Muhammad Tayyab eight years ago and had been resisting his insistence to allow him a second marriage.
She was sitting in the verandah of her house on April 13 when her husband, his father Taj Din, Parveen Bibi and Nighat Parveen attacked her with sticks.
The complainant alleged that she fell on the ground, following which the suspects forcibly took off her earrings and locked her in a room, where she was kept starving and thirsty.
On coming to know about her plight, her mother and brothers Zeeshan and Fayyaz came to her home and rescued her after pleading with her in-laws.
The SHO arrested both the suspects and registered a case.
In another incident, the brothers of a divorced woman in Millat Town vandalised the home of her former in-laws after arriving to take back her dowry and kidnapped a man.
The police rescued the hostage and arrested the two suspects after registering a case against them.
The complainant, Adnan Sarwar Khilji, informed the police that the suspect Imran had come to his home to take back the dowry of his sister Rabia after her divorce.
When the complainant reached his home with his brother-in-law Muhammad Usman, they found two trucks and 13 people on motorcycles, including four armed suspects. He alleged that the suspects took his sister’s gold jewellery along with the dowry.
After loading the items on the trucks, the suspects refused to give receipt to the family on stamp paper and abducted the complainant’s brother-in-law.
He said the suspects smashed the windows of his car parked in the house, tortured his brother Farhan and father Sarwar while vandalising his shop and tried to abduct Farhan.
