Lara Dutta seems to have taken a page out of the playbook that is currently being circulated around Bollywood in order to stay relevant. Making a rare comment on politics, the actor spoke to Zoom, sharing her support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments on Muslims during a rally in Rajasthan.

As per the transcript shared by Times Now News, Dutta, when queried about Modi's Rajasthan speech, responded, "We are all human beings at the end of the day it is very difficult to keep all the people happy all the time and if the if we are not exempt from trolling neither is the PM of this country, but I think all of us take that in our stride."

She added, "You can't keep weighing and treading on eggshells just because you don't want to upset one side or the other side. Somewhere down the line, you have to be true to what your truth is, what you believe in! The gumption to be able to do that well, kudos! At the end of the day, you have to stand by what are your beliefs."

The star also tackled a question about the cultural values of India. "You're born with the patriotism that is there and if you're not then you got to do a reality check on yourself," she shared. "Because if I'm born in India, my loyalties are going to be with this country. It's as simple as that." The actor, who married a tennis player added, "Mahesh always played for the Indian flag and he's very certain and clear that tomorrow our daughter should follow her father's footsteps, and she will always play for the Indian flag, you can't take that out of us as Indians. You cannot take the India out of us."

Modi's statement and criticism

Dutta's supportive statement for Modi comes after the PM said at a rally that when the Congress party was in government, “they said Muslims have the first right over the country’s resources.” If it returns to power, the party “will gather all your wealth and distribute it among those who have more children,” he added to applause. “They will distribute it among infiltrators,” he continued, saying, “Do you think your hard-earned money should be given to infiltrators?”

As per ABC News, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress party’s president, admonished Modi's statement as "hate speech" and party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi labelled his comments “deeply, deeply objectionable.” Muslim lawmaker Asaduddin Owaidi, who is also the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen party, said, “Since 2002 till this day, the only Modi guarantee has been to abuse Muslims and get votes.”

Paul | 7 months ago | Reply Why does the Pakistani media allocate such significant coverage to these individuals Both the media and the populace demonstrate a pronounced fixation on matters pertaining to India. It would be more commendable for them to showcase and prioritize coverage of local talent rather than focusing on these individuals perceived as lacking in merit.
