Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has addressed recent speculation surrounding his appearance, denying any involvement in cosmetic surgery while admitting to past filler work.
Attending Diljit Dosanjh’s concert, Rao's transformed look ignited debate among fans, leading to speculation about potential plastic surgery. Responding to the rumours, Rao clarified in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, stating, “I have not done any plastic surgery, guys. It is just a bad photo. That is just a touch-up photo. I wish I had such clean and flawless skin because it looks like that.”
Regarding a previous cosmetic procedure, Rao explained, “About eight years ago, I did some filler work on my chin because I wanted to look confident. My dermatologist suggested it and I did. Do I feel confident after that? Yes. Have I done better films after that. It has changed the perception.”
While acknowledging the impact of visual appearance in acting, the 39-year-old emphasised his stance on plastic surgery, deeming it too costly and time-consuming. He stated, “If somebody wants to boost their confidence and the science is available, then why not. But no to plastic surgery.”
Despite the controversy, Rao remains focused on his upcoming projects, including Mr and Mrs Mahi opposite Janhvi Kapoor, slated for a May 31 release, along with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Srikanth in the pipeline.
Celebrities across the world have cited narrow beauty standards as creating pressure to alter one's appearance. From colourism to fat shaming, celebrity culture often contributes to individuals seeking cosmetic procedures to achieve a perceived ideal appearance. Moreover, advancements in medical technology have made such procedures more accessible and less invasive, further fueling their popularity.
Beyond aesthetic motivations, some individuals opt for cosmetic surgery to address physical insecurities, correct perceived flaws or boost self-confidence. However, the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is not without risks and it's crucial for individuals to carefully consider the implications and potential consequences before undergoing any procedure.
