Cop martyred, 2 suspects killed in encounter
A police constable was martyred, another injured and two suspected robbers killed in an alleged encounter in Baghbanpura on Saturday morning.
Reportedly, two motorcyclists were signaled to stop by the policemen on the GT Road in Mominpura.
However, they resorted to firing at the police. As a result, Constable Imran Haider died and Head Constable Dildar Hussain suffered bullet injuries.
In the retaliatory fire, both the suspected robbers died.
The funeral prayers of martyred Constable Imran Haider were offered at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.
Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar andother senior officers attended the funeral.
The IGP said Constable Imran Haider made the department proud by sacrificing his life in the line of duty.
The deceased was 38 years old and belonged to Batapur. He has left his wife, a son and seven daughters.
The IGP said the Punjab Police will take all possible care for the welfare of the family.
He further said that the best welfare of the martyr's family is the responsibility of the department and all possible care will be taken. He directed the DIG Operations to ensure the best care for the head constable injured in the incident.
