Did Taylor Swift just name drop herself on “The Tortured Poet’s Department?”

Swift’s 11th studio album references many influential artists, including herself on the closing track, “Clara Bow.”

Among esteemed musical figures like Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, and Charlie Puth, Swift appears to recognise her own influence on the industry.

Her 16-track album, “The Tortured Poets Department” was released at midnight with “Clara Bow” as the closing song. Two hours later, Swift released an extended anthology, with 15 new tracks.

 

The “Clara Bow” lyric mentioning Swift appears in the outro of the song, “You look like Taylor Swift / In this light, we’re loving it.” The line follows the format of the opening lines in the verses, which reference Clara Bow and Stevie Nicks before the songstress herself.

Swifties were ecstatic at the news, with several taking to social media to share their thoughts.

While many fans were excited about the lyric that mentions Swift, some are speculating about who the chilling ending line of the song may be about, “You've got edge, she never did / The future's bright, dazzling.”

According to People magazine, the 14-time Grammy winner opened up about the album's significance in a recent concert stop in Melbourne, revealing that the songwriting process was a lifeline during a difficult period in her life. 

"The things I was going through, the things I was writing about, it kind of reminded me why songwriting actually gets me through my life," she said. 

"I've never had an album [where] I needed songwriting more than I needed it on Tortured Poets."
