RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Naanbai Association’s Central President, Shafiq Qureshi, was arrested from his house late Sunday night.

Qureshi was taken into custody after he rejected the notification issued by the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner to reduce the price of roti. “The police stormed into their home late Sunday night and arrested his father. I went to the police station but I wasn’t allowed to meet him,” Qureshi’s son tells The Express Tribune.

The police have expressed their ignorance about his arrest. The Pakistan Naanbai Association’s president has called for a joint meeting of the Naanbais and oven owners of Rawalpindi Division to hold a protest against the reduction in the price of roti.

The Naanbai Association has announced to challenge his arrest and possible detention in the High Court.

According to the association, the houses of other officials have also been raided. The association will take any final decision in this regard on Tuesday (today).
